Why read poetry?
Poetry is all around us. Songs use poetry. Commercials use poetry to capture your attention. Poetry can be satisfying to your soul. It helps bring back memories. Poetry can be serious, funny, quirky, lovely, thought provoking, inspirational, spiritual, historical, joyful, sad, comforting, spans the ages, meant to be read, meant to be sung, and great with a cup of tea. I am sure you could probably add more descriptions for poetry. Next to memorizing scripture, reading and learning poetry by heart can be inspirational (and sometimes just great fun). We hope these selections entice you to include poetry in your studies.
We have included a wide variety of poetic works below. There are books for all ages for you to enjoy. In this lists of poetry books we have even included a few "How to write poetry" and "How to memorize" selections to help you get your own or your child's creative juices flowing.
"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." Philippians 4:8
