I love Charlotte Mason's educational philosophy. It lends itself easily to helping a young child develop a love of learning. And in the end, isn't that what we want for all of our children?

Charlotte Mason was an 18th century educator who taught mothers and governesses to teach children at home. She had wonderful educational philosophy which included: living books; narration; twaddle free books; educational balance which included music, art, and nature study ("Education is an Atmosphere, a discipline and a life);developing good habits in children; and so much more.

She wrote the Original Home Schooling Series, but most of us have found the easiest way to apply her educational philosophy is by reading books by modern day authors who have studied and applied her writings. For the Children's Sake and Charlotte Mason Companion are two books that give a good introduction to her writings.
